Personally, a Mookata buffet usually conjures up images of menacing gas cylinders and splattering hot oil. I would classify it under "higher risk" food adventure, and unless the benefits are justified, I would not go near a Mookata anytime. Legend has it that Soi 51 Mookata has great value-for-money all-you-can-eat delicious Mookata buffet at $20 nett only! And $18 nett during promotion periods. That certainly outweighs the risk of me being burnt by a Mookata.

The variety of food offered at Soi 51 Mookata is amazing. Besides the usual marinated pork, chicken and beef, I was surprised with the seafood offerings which include prawns, mussels, scallops, squid, bamboo clams, flower crabs. And they also have a huge selection of pork balls, Thai fish cakes, mushrooms etc.

Taste-wise, we love almost everything. The barbecued marinated meats were excellent. They were tender and juicy. The prawns and scallops were succulent as well. Again, to re-emphasise the price point of $20 nett, it's really worth the money and there's not much to complain about the food standards.

Soi 51 Mookata has several outlets and I think most of them are located in coffee shops. Take your pick of "prime real estate" in the coffee shop and enjoy the open-air ventilation. Service is adequate and efficient. Though one should not be expecting restaurant type of ambience and service level.  We left with our souls satisfied, stomachs overworked.

I love buffets but I think buffet restaurants love me more. It's not my fault that I was born with a non-expandable belly which makes me the ideal customer who contribute the fat profit margins to buffet restaurants. Still, it didn't stopped me from going to Kuishin Bo which I have been waiting to try for the longest time.

I was awed by the huge variety offered by Kuishin Bo. Fried tempura prawn, soft shell crab, gyozas, fish, fresh seafood such as prawns, scallops, mussels, assorted sushi, handrolls, yakiniku, paper hotpots, ramen, soba, udon, chawanmushi, soups etc.. Not to mention the desserts section which is equivalently amazing with its extensive range of cakes, puddings, mochis, konnyaku jelly, icecream (both soft serve and hard serve). To top it off, a chocolate fondue fountain!

Fresh and juicy assorted sashimi - My most favourite part of the buffet

Fried stuff were pretty good too.

Fresh seafood

Paper hotpot - Not as good as I hoped for

Ramen - You can give this a miss.
Self serve your soft serve

Surprisingly a very good intense lava cake

Milo is available. But it's a trap to make you feel full

There's a washing facility in-house. So convenient!

nth round

Die die also want to fill up all the 9 slots - The puddings are better than the cakes in my opinion.

For just $38.90++ during weekend lunch, you get a quality unlimited buffet. I like that the seafood and sashimi is fresh. Kuishin Bo Suntec City is also currently running a promotion where 2 adults and 1 child can dine for $84++. Good idea for family sunday brunches.
My first thought of this place was the name was so difficult to pronounce.

Well what's in a name? As long as the food is great! Anyway I think the name translates to Food God.

It's a self-service korean BBQ, which means take-till-you-happy, eat-till-you-drop, stay-till-you-smell.

They have a wide range of different types of chicken, pork, beef and seafood.  After taking a small portion of each to try, we discovered our loves to be the prawns, pork belly, pork collar, pork and chicken marinated in special sauce, golden mushrooms

There were also cooked korean food such as rice cake, omelette, sweet potato. The cooked food was decent despite being left at room temperature. A few types of soups were available.. I had the seaweed soup which was filled with chunks of seaweed.

After cooking and finally ready to eat! The meat was tender and flavorful, slightly charred.

Favorite pork belly - layers of fat and lean meat served a wonderful variation in texture.

My eyes lit up when I put the marinated pork and chicken (below) into my mouth. The sweet special savory sauce, charred BBQ smoky goodness, and melt-in-the-mouth tender meat was a heavenly combination.

Desserts include corn soup or red bean soup. We had the red bean soup which was not overly sweet and great for cleansing the palate.

At $25++ per pax, this is a value-for-money buffet that we all ate till we drop.

Address:
They have a few branches but I went to the Tampines outlet.
Tampines 1, 10 Tampines Central 1 #04-22/23 s529536

Other outlets:
Oriental Plaza, 291 New Bridge Road #01-01 s088756 (Chinatown)
United Square Shopping Mall, 101 Thomson Road #B1-15 s307591 (Newton)
Junction 10, 1 Woodlands Road #01-21/22 s677899 (Teck Whye)
I don't usually go to buffets because it's difficult to find really good quality ones that don't make me feel ouch when I pay.  Nevertheless, there would be days when I am in a "i-want-to-eat-till-i-burst" mode or the fickle monster's "I want laksa but also sashimi" mode. Even though my wallet might not agree with my mood. So on my mission to search for a budget buffet, I came across Sakura and decided to give it a try since:
- it's probably the cheapest international buffet in Singapore ($26 ++ for weekend lunch).
- it has 8k fans on Facebook. So can't be that bad right?
- it serves Ben & jerry ice cream. If the food cannot make it, at least we can still "piah" the ice cream to redeem the ticket price.

There are quite a few outlets in Singapore (Dhoby Ghaut, Pasir Ris, Admiralty Park, Clementi, Jurong, Tampines, Yio Chu Kang). I visited the Pasir Ris outlet. I didn't take pics of all the food but I thought the variety was quite reasonable.

Sushi & sashimi counter

BBQ station.. Just need to clip the binder clip (found at our table) to the meat sign we wanted and the chef grilled it and served to our table.

Pizza and Western food

There was a Asian counter serving scallop congee, crayfish, dim sum, noodles.

There was a local delicacy station serving Hainanese chicken rice and cooks laksa on the spot. Laksa was good!

There was a fried food station containing chicken wings, tempura prawns, fried dumplings. Tempura was nice!

Hot station serving chawanmushi, herbal chicken and soups (mushroom, "shark fin", radish)

Drinks station

Ice cream station

Fruits station

Desserts station serving the usual suspect durian puff, chocolate eclairs, fruit pudding

The good:
- tempura prawn
- crayfish
- sashimi
- BBQ chicken satay
- grilled Thai sauce prawns
- laksa
- durian puff
- ice cream
- lychee and mango puddings

The rest are not worth the calories.

Overall rating: 2.75/5

Overall, I think it is an average buffet with excellent price. Don't go there expecting hotel standard. Don't "hiam" so much and you will find that it is actually "can eat lah". Set the expectation correctly to avoid disappointment. I don't mind going back during weekday which is even cheaper ($23++).
